Angela's Lesson's Through Her Cancer Journey - Video 1

This is a moment where I am going to be extremely vulnerable. Over the next 10 days, I will post a video every day that will share thoughts and lessons learned from last year. My sister, Christie, asked me to record videos over that period of time just to capture my thoughts.

The intermittent videos were recorded between the months of June through November. Over the course of the year, I had 2 surgeries, 8 infusions over 16 weeks, which included 3 different types of chemo infusions, 6 weeks of radiation and then went back on 2 rounds of an oral chemo the first part of the year.

This month, I celebrate a year after my last infusion treatment, which was on October 12, 2018, I am inclined to share these videos in hopes that someone will hear a message that they need to get them through a tough season in their life.

Even though the doctors told me not to celebrate for at least 2 years, I choose to celebrate life and the many blessings that God continues to give to me. I go in this morning to get my 1 year mammogram. So I am praying for favorable results. Regardless of the outcome, I am grateful that my 6 month check up was normal.

This is the first video I recorded. You can see that I am processing through my thoughts as I explained how I feel about the situation. When you are going through a tough time, it is typically the first thing on your mind when you wake up and the last thing you think about before you go to sleep.

In this video, some of the things that come to my mind over the first few weeks sent me spiraling. It was the thought of losing my hair and my eyebrows. So I talked about how can I control the situation. But the sage advice from my friend’s sister, reminds me that I should just go through the process.

Lessons learned:

  • Go through the process

  • Find reasons to be grateful

  • Know your body

  • Be okay with your emotions

Some parts of these videos will make you laugh, others might make you cry. Either way, I hope that the lessons are applicable during all seasons of life's journey. Because whatever you are going through regardless of how small or large they appear, they still impact how you show up daily. So journey well my friends and try not to sweat the small stuff. We got bigger things to process through.

Consistently cultivating,

Angela
