Angela R. Garmon
Angela is a speaker, strategist, and a life enthusiast who has a passion for people. She uses her 20 years of business experience to assist others through their journeys. Prior to starting her business, she worked in finance and process improvement in some of the top resorts and hotels on the West Coast. Shortly after transitioning out of the hotel industry, she started her own business to assist others with change.
Her time spent in management and working with teams to roll out Six Sigma projects made her realize that people fear change. Reluctantly, many leaders will admit they do not handle change well and do not have the proper training to lead the efforts. Because Angela understands that poorly managed change negatively impacts the bottom line and morale, she partners with leaders to ensure they have what they need to be successful. She formed ARG to support leaders with managing change effectively while also producing sustainable results.
Angela is no stranger to change. After 12 years with Starwood, she received notice that the company was letting her go due to the sale and acquisition of the property. In order to receive her severance, she had to complete the transaction. The rest of the executive committee had either transferred out or quit, leaving Angela alone to lead the charge for two months. Successfully, she finalized all of the paperwork, closed the hotel's books and completed the acquisition. Additionally, she was able to assist the hotel's employees with job placement and advocated for others to remain there. The company called her back to taskforce a few months later. She supported a couple of California hotels, working in their finance departments while they searched for an ADOF.
Most recently, Angela was faced with a cancer diagnosis. Having to go through chemotherapy, surgeries, and other treatments, she was able to create a balance between life and business. Even through this tough season, ARG's bottom line increased by 50% year over year. Angela reminds everyone that they too can choose to conquer any challenge no matter how big or small by choosing to embrace the season they are in and maximize these times by focusing on the tasks that are within their control.
Community is important to Angela, and she is constantly seeking ways to give back. She is an adjunct professor at Grand Canyon University in the Colangelo College of Business. She prepares students to be successful leaders in their chosen profession. Among all other roles in the community, she is proud to support other women business owners where ever they are in the journey. She will be sworn in as president of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Phoenix Chapter in June 2019. She is a visionary and looks forward to making a positive impact on the chapter that will promote future growth strategies for the association as well as women business owners.
